I’m on a mission this year: spend $80 or less per week on groceries for my family of four! After reconciling all our expenses for 2009, all the while remembering the splurges during a special family celebration and replenishing of food storage, I realized I could and would do better in 2010. With the skills I’ve obtained, and the deals on some web sites I’ve discovered, “I hereby pledge to lower my food budget this year!”
Barely time for two stops (across the street from each other) this week. And those were in the blizzard on Saturday! This busy, busy month of preparations for Christmas, and the dark evenings after long, hard days, make evening errands impossible. With DH as my chauffer and “helper,” we headed out to brave the elements. We combined Christmas shopping with grocery shopping (since nothing would thaw in the car!). Still, it was rough going, and my trips were condensed.
This week for just food I spent $47.83! This puts me at $475.90 UNDER budget for the year! Here’s where my dollars went:
Aldi: Milk is still 1.79/gallon. We got lots of dairy (yogurts), bread, bananas, and special desserts for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Total for food: 27.41
NoFrills: I PMd here, because I only had Saturday to shop. 3-pack popcorn .58; M&Ms 1.88; 93% lean ground beef 1.88/#; chicken pot pies .58; fruit pot pies .59; eggs .88/doz; Farmland sausage links .42; apple juice blend .38; store cake mix .50; apples .88/#. Total for food: 20.42
The cookies are done!! I’m delivering 8 dozen on Tuesday. The rest leave my freezer on Friday evening. Yay! The water jugs will go in, to take up room till I can find more bargains to fill it again. That’s the fun part: bargain replenishing!
Three more weeks left in the year!
